The bulk of the papers consist of Falkner [sic] family papers, 1824-1964, Mississippi ancestors of William Faulkner. These include bills receipts, indentures and certificates of election of John Wesley Thompson Falkner, William C. Falkner, and John Wesley Thompson. Other letters by William Faulkner, 1950, discuss the Nobel Awards ceremony; a medal awarded by the Greek (Athens) Academy, 1957, and Faulkner's speech on the occasion which was drafted by Duncan Emrich; and a recommendation, 1957 June 20, for Faulkner's valet Paul Pollard. Of interest are manuscripts by Faulkner and screenplays by others. Faulkner manuscripts include "Today We Live," 1933 April 8, "The Reivers," 1961 August 21 and notes regarding an unidentified screenplay, ca. 1936. Screenplays by others include James Poe's "Sanctuary," 1960, and Irving Ravetch's and Harriet Frank's "The Long Hot Summer," 1957, which they based on Faulkner's "The Hamlet." There is also a copy of the stage production of "Requiem For a Nun" by Lemuel Ayers.
